Sam And Saundra’s Second Time Around – Part 46
Oregon
6/14/11 – Alaska Bound
The day arrives. We are packed, repacked, over
packed. Ready. We have the required juvenile ‘travel through Canada’ paperwork
completed. We have gotten permission to take our oldest grandson, Owen, out of
Kindergarten two days early. We attend his end of year class party, with
his mom, Kirsten, his other grandmother, ‘Magga’ Linda, and a cousin or
two. As soon as the festivities were over – we whisked Owen away, jogged
down the street and hop into Brutus. Ten minutes max. We are on the
road. Big, big grins. The weather is barely acknowledging the
possibility of spring. We are on the road.
We travel only 31/2 hours before we take our first
break. This trip will be different. Not only does Owen teach us to
sing “Down By The Bay” (have you ever heard the giggles coming from the
eagles?), but we will not be taking over a month to travel from our home
country, through Canada and into Alaska to the Klutina River. Instead, we
have ten days. And we have a wonderful six-year old boy with us. I
pretty much figure we are nuts.
