Sam And Saundra’s Second
Time Around – Part 45
Oregon
Spring/Summer 2011
– Getting Ready
Now you may think I am
late getting this story back on track – since it is almost August, but I assure
you that I have, or can come up with, many excuses. Like: It took so long for
the feel of winter to leave Oregon. I think that all of spring and much of
summer was taken captive by the cold, wet, grayness that can numb even the most
normal. Or: My health has been good – but Sam has become very
high-maintenance and mmm. How about: I was practicing procrastination and
downright laziness and got good at it? Oooh! Too close!! Ok.
My official excuse is ‘we have been having too much fun and busy,
busy’.
We spent most of our
three months at home with our four grandchildren: Owen ‘Tiger’ Sliger; Jaron
‘Jaguar’ Meyer (“No, I’m Jaron Davis Meyer gramma!!!”); Samantha ‘Sami’ Meyer,
and; Reagan ‘Sunny Rea’ Meyer. Cuddling, Chuck E. Cheese, bowling,
garden/yard work, play, camping trip with the grandsons, and whatever else we
could come up with. We love them all so very much.
We spent time with all
the family that we could. Visiting with my mother, Maxine (Hi Mom- Love you!!).
Attending brother Virgil’s wedding to Terri, which took place in a very
spacious wine cellar. The camping trip with grandsons was at my brother
Cecil’s place in Aumsville. (Yes! There was a tornado – we saw some of the
leftover damage resulting from that blowhard.) While there, we took off to
Silver Creek Falls with the boys, Cecil and his granddaughter, Jessica. She is
such a grown up young girl and both Owen and Jaron followed her footsteps so
very, very close. Jessica just smiled and kept them entertained. We
hiked the North Falls and the South Falls, both paths going behind the
waterfalls. Due to the exceptionally wet hanging on of winter – the falls
were ginormous and we got extra dousings as mist was flung back to us when the
water of the falls fell from above onto the rock ledges at the side and creek
pool below. So cool!! In addition, Cecil hosted a family gathering/picnic
while we were there and I get all teary-eyed tickling the memory thing.
Sister Grace, Brother Mark, Sounds like a band. So many there, including mom,
and both our daughters – so many others wanting to be there. Gotta do that
again!

We attended nephew
Dayton’s high school graduation party. We were able to spend some time
with our family that knew Sam first. Sister’s Judi and Janis – and all
the family from that that branch. They still claim me though.
(Thanks!!!!) We broke ‘fast’ with so many family and friends that our
footprints are much easier to track.
Sam and I are anxious
to get on the road to Alaska, but we do realize that there truly is “No Place
Like Home”.
