Sam And Saundra's Second Time Around - Part 59

Owen's Razor Clams

We learned how to clean the Razor Neck Clams last trip, so we set up a work station and Owen jumped right in and it only took us a couple of hours to clean the clams.  Putting some corn meal in the buckets with the clams covered with sea water helped a lot.  But this is still the yucky part.  Owen was shelling them, cutting the ‘zipper’, removing the foot from the bod, snipping the tips of the necks, then snipping on through both the ‘pipes’ in the neck, removing that which needed to be removed and even slicing and cleaning the ‘foot’.  He was intrigued with the plastic-looking pipette that came out of these clams – just like I was when I first cleaned one.  OK, I was grossed out and he was intrigued. Pretty close to the same thing.

Judy And Dennis In Sinking Sands

We helped ‘The Boys’ clean their 240 clams that they got while waiting for the Reds.  Then later, we ‘caravanned’ with all of the ‘Vags’ (except for Dez and Arlene) back to our favorite clam beach.  Odd thing – they all seemed to like getting stuck in the sinking sand and had a good time doing it.  We got our limits (480).  It took a while to clean them, but we got good at it.  We had fried clams several times and I made clam chowder.  The rest of ours were frozen.  Sherry and Doug canned a part of their clams. Mmmm.  Gotta try smoking and canning some. (Thanks Dez and Arlene for keeping Sam and I connected with the group!
