| Owen's Razor Clams |
We learned how to clean
the Razor Neck Clams last trip, so we set up a work station and Owen jumped
right in and it only took us a couple of hours to clean the clams.
Putting some corn meal in the buckets with the clams covered with sea water
helped a lot. But this is still the yucky part. Owen was shelling
them, cutting the ‘zipper’, removing the foot from the bod, snipping the tips
of the necks, then snipping on through both the ‘pipes’ in the neck, removing
that which needed to be removed and even slicing and cleaning the ‘foot’.
He was intrigued with the plastic-looking pipette that came out of these clams
– just like I was when I first cleaned one. OK, I was grossed out and he was
intrigued. Pretty close to the same thing.
