Sam And Saundra's Second Time Around - Part 36

Sam and Saundra’s Second Time Around – Part 36
Arizona
3/1/11 – 3/15/11 – On To Tucson

We have two weeks to spend in Tucson before we will rush home to greet our second granddaughter for the first time.  Our trip from Yuma to Tucson does not take that long.  The weather was scheduled to be more than 10 degrees cooler – but it ended up being much warmer. As you all know, Tucson is in a location that is more ‘south’ then Yuma, but ends up being cooler since it is at a much higher altitude.  A little more moisture and voila, a somewhat greener, plumper, cactus population appears.  Now there may be other differences – but my eye was on the cactus.  We stayed at the Cactus Country RV Park, where my sister winters.  Lots of cactus.  Sam and I take a must-see return tour of the Saguaro National Park.  We loved it before and we love it now.  Lots of cactus.  We see no javalinas running around.  Awww! We also do not see any of the African Killer Bees.  Yipeeeee! For more on this, refer to our first adventure.

Cactus And Resident

We attended Tuesday morning coffee/donut/raffle, one of my favorite activities.  We also made it to a biscuit and sausage gravy breakfast – super yum! Calories are always negligible when the value of community is factored in. It’s totally true!

Another Cactus And Resident

Sam got a morning to bicycle solo through the desert, as I traveled with the Quilting Club to the Desert Patch quilting shop. I spent my time there searching through the shop’s nooks, crannies and outdoor ‘closet’ bins for materials that tickled my creative muse.  Unfortunately, I don’t/can’t sew a stitch – but that did not stop me from looking and dreaming of other uses for the colorful material, especially the southwest motif material.  Later, the quilters set out patterns from the scraps of material that was left from this season’s quilts (which are donated to children in need of comfort).  I was mesmerized by this artistic process. My sister allowed me to help on the ones she was creating.  I was confident that if I goofed it up – she could later fix it when she sewed the pieces together.  The group had two hand-painted quilts, a baby quilt and a crocheted throw that they raffle to generate money for next season’s supplies. Sam and I bought a few tickets.  We won the baby blanket – another Reagan gift.
