11/1/10-3/1/11 – Yuma Mini-Adventures – Possibly The Last
Turn Of This Year Off Of The Road Between Quartzsite And Yuma – But No Promises
| I C U |
We have pretty much followed all of the side roads off of
the main highway between Quartzsite and Yuma.
We have pictures of the ‘weather or border surveillance balloon’ when it
was grounded due to wind. We also have
pictures of animals, sunsets, cactus, birds and people. We did not follow the roads that had warning
signs that we were about to enter the Proving Ground, nor did we walk in the
desert areas that had signs warning of possible live munitions lying around.
Reading signs around here is a good habit to develop. One of the last roads we
wanted to check out was the road to a roadside chapel that welcomed you to rest
and worship a bit.

We turned left and traveled a very short distance to a small
chapel set in the middle of crop fields, in front of a large haystack. We parked and neared the chapel that was
about the size of a nice garden shed.
The look of the outside of the building left no question as to the intent
of the building, even if the sign had not clearly marked it. Inside were rows of short wooden pews
standing on beautiful wood floors. A
pulpit was appropriately placed. The plaques on the wall, the bible opened for
reading, the quiet light, were all welcoming. The small roadside chapel was
built by a husband/farmer in honor of God and tribute to his late wife. It
probably is no surprise to anyone, but I was greatly moved. The guest book is evidence that the roadside
chapel is and has been a stop for many.
Again, when in the area – Ya Oughta!
