Sam And Saundra's Second Time Around - Part 6

Sam And Saundra’s Second Time Around – Part 6
Nevada
10/19/10 - 10/22/10 - Las Vegas

We like this RV Park.  It not only shares Sam’s name, it provides a free shuttle to the Las Vegas ‘strip’. We have never spent time in Las Vegas and we were looking forward to it.  I wanted to see the pyramid and Sam wanted to see Mandalay Bay – shark reef and all that. We were released from the shuttle at Harrah’s and walked through the casino to get to the main street.  Made it! We knew that the pyramid was to the left, so off we went.  We thought this would be an easy walk.  Wrong.  You cannot walk on a sidewalk from one street to the next on the ‘strip’.  Instead, you have to follow walkways over, through, up, around and sideways, but never ‘down the street’. I had given up on finding the pyramid, but Sam kept focused.  We finally reached a sign pointing the way to a tram to Mandalay Bay and Luxor (pyramid – who knew?).  We made it.  We checked out the shark thing first at Mandalay Bay.  It had a goodly number of sharks, but did since we have we the Newport Aquarium, we passed on the $32 event. The Luxor is a black glassy pyramid protected by a huge sphinx.  Very Egyptian. Before my imagination could travel too far on it’s own, we rushed to look inside.  I was surprised that it did not look as impressive from the inside – but it would have been neat to see one of the hotel rooms that share those outside black windows.

Even Famous People Visit Las Vegas

We  - meaning Sam (and every other male) – was accosted all the way from Harrah’s to Luxor by men and women flipping their pamphlet’s/tickets/prostitute information before offering it to him.  It was annoying, sounding like cards on the spokes of a bicycle, but there were no wheels in sight. There were two men on walkway bridges that were begging for money, with signs that stated that they wanted to be honest and that they planned to use any money received on prostitutes.  Trucks were going by on the streets and many of them were carrying large billboard signs with information on where and how to contact prostitutes and provided pictures and names of those presently available.  There was a big ‘screen’ above one of the casinos that had a huge picture of a woman with a thong and heels and little else on.  I cannot recommend anyone come to the Las Vegas Strip with any child, young adult or whatever.  There is no escaping this aspect. Other than that, the casinos were no different then elsewhere.  I think that a draw may be if you are a regular – your comps would increase.  Vegas seems to be diversifying from gambling and prostitution, adding major shops (some international), top entertainment with diversity, and attractions.  Unfortunately, some of the attractions are geared for children, but with the gambling and open sales of prostitution, this is not a good place for kids.

Luxor Version

Yeah! I know – but in my opinion, it still is not a place for children. My grandchildren are priceless and their total welfare is very important. I bet your children, grandchildren, even nieces and nephews, are too.
