Sam And Saundra's Second Time Around - Part 3

Sam And Saundra’s Second Time Around – Part 3
Nevada
10/14/10-10/17/10 - To Jackpot And Beyond

Our trip to Jackpot was pleasant and we discussed many things. I just don’t remember any of it.  The weather was great and we were enjoying the sun.  We had agreed to take this trip in small increments, not only to have fun, but also to watch the altitude changes very closely.  Our first stop in Nevada was Jackpot.  We ‘boondocked’ (with permission) next to the full hook-up RV park. In fact we shared a very nice piece of lawn with the park – and it was ok.  Who knew?  We walked the whole town and visit all of the casinos.  The last time we had been in Jackpot, a gigantic lightening storm knocked out the electricity and it storm raged hard all night.  This visit was more relaxing.

Not A Buffalo

From Jackpot we traveled to West Wendover, right on the Utah border.  We wanted to see cousin Arnie who lives in Roy, Utah, just north of Salt Lake City. Sam convinced Arnie to meet us on our side of Salt Lake City.  Arnie, not knowing the area any more then we did, recommended that we meet in Skull Valley, Utah on I-80.  He called and cancelled that, since it is a ghost town.  We then agreed to meet in Grantsville.  We left West Wendover to drive to Grantsville. Our plan was to choose a restaurant and call Arnie with our pick.  We drove the freeway, took the appropriate exit, travel about 10 miles southish to find Grantsville.  It is a pretty large town, with many new housing developments – full of people and cars.  We could not find one open restaurant.  Sam actually stops and asks a local for information on any type of eatery.  None.  Zippo.  Unbelievable.  Sam calls Arnie, who is on the road by now.  We take off on another route that will loop us back to the main freeway towards Salt Lake City.  We catch the freeway at Exit 99, where a truck stop sits.  Sam calls Arnie and it is agreed that we will meet him here at this truck stop.  A truck stop.  I’m not sure – but I think Arnie is way tolerant to drive all this way so we can see him and then eat in a truck stop.  As an aside, I have eaten at truck stop restaurants that serve food that tops most other restaurants around.  This was not one of those.

Sam And Arnie

Arnie – we had a wonderful time with you. Thanks! The mountains in this area had blankets of bright red, with bright yellow ones thrown in for eye appeal.  Beautiful. It was a very good thing that I am not the driver.
