Sam and Saundra’s Year Long Adventure – Part 91
Mid-West
4/25/09 Durango, Colorado
Did I mention yesterday that the white-faced gargantuan beastie decided to come visit us after we were back at Lori and Ray’s? He was spotted trotting down the main road. As he began to turn into the driveway, Lori yelled out his name and told him to “go home”. He plunked himself right down and looked very forlorn. Lori told him to go home again and he got up and trudged back down the road towards his home. I almost – almost! - felt sorry for him. On the other hand, talk about ‘command voice’. Lori should have been in law enforcement - just not the fish and game section.

Today we are looking forward to celebrating the second day of Lori’s birthday and have been invited to her party. Ray and Lori indicate we will be meeting their ‘biker friends’ – their words. I think that if I had a large number of people show up to share my birthday – and they were not family members – I would glow with a prideful, contented, satisfied smile. In other words, I would be down right smug about it. Even though the weather was cold, windy and drippy, many people showed up on their motorcycles. The array of ‘rides’ was stunning. Ray smoked a turkey, Lori made a salad, Troy helped set up and carve the turkey, and Sam volunteered to man the grill and cook the burgers. I watched real closely. We all had fun. We felt a little like aliens at the beginning, but I am pretty sure that it was due to Ray telling everyone way before the party that his Uncle Sam was a federal cop. Talk about dampers. We were invited to be in the group picture. The party was a success. Ray got a good brow-beating, for not arranging a birthday cake for Lori. He survived. A lit incense stick stuck in a pastry was used as the cue to sing happy birthday to Lori. Sam had given her the shell necklace that he had made for her yesterday, so we sang loud today. We all had fun! Happy second day of your birthday Lori!!!!

For me, the party did not end with the party. Tracey had arranged for Sam and I to go to the boxing match at the sports/convention center at the nearby casino. She works for the fight promoter. I am a great fan of boxing and this was my first live professional match. Several fights were on the ticket and I enjoyed them all sooooo much!! So did Sam. Thank you Tracey! I very much appreciated this experience. After the matches, we ‘took a look’ through the casino part and ended this day seeing a bright, falling, strange light of unknown origin, to the left of Brutus as we were driving back to Lori and Ray’s.
