Sam And Saundra's Year Long Adventure - Part 83

Sam And Saundra’s Year Long Adventure – Part 83
Mexico
3/27/09 – Los Mochis – Copper Canyon RV Park

Today’s road log tells us that we are going to travel 260 miles, about 7 ½ hours to get from wonderful Mazatlan to Los Mochis and the Copper Canyon RV Park.  We are not going into Copper Canyon.  We are warned that the RV park is pretty stark and in a pretty stark area.  The drive is all on cuota roads. Other than the cost of tolls, it should be routine.  After we leave Mazatlan, we get glimpses of the Oceano Pacifico (which I thought was the Sea of Cortez and these maps also indicate it is known as the Golfo de California). We pass through the Tropico de Cancer and see field after field of corn.  Not as romantic as agave. It can be puzzling why some of these places have not been developed for travelers. I remember all that my mom talked about when she used to drive here 30-40 years ago.  Surely some improvements have been made.  We pass the turn to Peninsula Quevedo and another for El Dorado.  I can’t believe Sam does not know about El Dorado. We are following signs to Obregon and Nogales.  The area is getting more agricultural, as in regular crops (more than just agave plants). We by-pass Culiacan and eventually pull into the Copper Canyon RV Park.

Road Sights:

We set up, eat and rest – for a while.  Sam decides it is time to practice his drums.  We are going to be a part of a band for the talent show that we are going to have in San Carlos.  Sam is practicing and practicing – outside the trailer.  He comes in laughing and says that one of the guys that work at the park had been out there with him while he was practicing.  He was dancing and laughing to Sam’s rendition of Mayan Muerto.  Done totally without use of his machete.  It was a pleasant, restful night for me.  Sam complained about the roving roosters in the park that did not know anything about the sunrise.  These have been following Sam the last few moves.  I am not sure who gave them our itinerary.
