Sam And Saundra’s Year Long Adventure – Part 66
Mexico
3/8/09 - Oaxaca – Free Day (Thinking of you, Linda)

I am going to start this day off by giving a language lesson. How to pronounce Oaxaca – according to Victor. Ready? OAX is pronounced like WOK, the oriental cooking pot. (Although if you do not sound out the L in walk – that would work too.) (No, I do not know why you would want to do that – let’s just stick with WOK.) Now think of the WH in a Pacific Ocean WHale. Put them together and you have the first syllable (sillyable) of Oaxaca. This is now WHOKaca. Now WHOK does not seem like a reasonable way to pronounce OAX, so just visualize me giving Sam a WHOK upside the head and you will remember it. See? WHOK…down pat. The ACA part is just as weird. Not to be politically or linguistically uncorrect inconsciously. But if you pronounce SOCK with an accent – it becomes SOCKA. And there you go----WHOKSOCKA!! That’s it!!

We have not heard anything about Brutus, so we decide to forgo the optional tour of Oaxaca and stay near camp. We were worried that we will be stuck in this parking lot long term while they order a new transmission from who knows where. We took a walk around the neighborhood. The families along the street waved. We found a laundry and hurried our dirty cloths to that establishment. We found several internet stores, but only one was open. Although we had our own laptop, we use one of their computers – which worked out well because we needed to print out the forms the bank sent regarding the fraudulent use of our credit card in California while we were in Paamul. They printed and then we only need to get the forms notarized. We ate in a local restaurant, cleaned up the trailer and in general did general things. By evening, we knew that they thought they knew what is wrong with Brutus. They plan to dismantle and let us know if they can find the parts locally, then give us an estimate on how much and how soon. We are told not to worry over and over by the mechanico, taxi driver and Gabriel. MmmmHmmm. We have a social hour.
