Sam And Saundra’s Year Long Adventure – Part 38
Mexico
2/8/09 – Villahermosa – Parque Tabasco
Today’s travel takes us from an RV park to a parking lot attached to the fairgrounds at Villahermosa with the spectacular name of Parque Tabasco. Which happens to be ‘Park’ and ‘the name of the county’. Ten hours of drive time and 293 miles. On the way, we stop at a statue of two nude men. Hee hee. Two… nude… men. All arms are present, as well as the noses. The statues were very, very big and although to my untrained eye, they originally looked like metal, they were in fact, cement. My kind of men! We are not sure what they represented, although they had an artistic representation of the really cool bridge that is within sight, posing with them. The reason we stopped was because all eleven of our rigs could circle around the statue, get out and have lunch and talk…about the scenery. A lot of the visitors to the statues were natives. One man, who was very proud that he spoke a little English (claiming he was learning it from his 8 year old son), was there with his wife and two children. He tried to tell us what it meant, but we could not quite understand. We instead talked about his boys and the fact that they were in the area to visit family.

The road today is very good, as a whole. We make good time and have few heart plomps. Sam and I enter town, following others, but get separated. I get totally turned around, which is not good if you are the navigator. Sam ends up following the trailer way, way down the road – to the safety of the fairground. We set up camp and so ends the day – but with none of the foretold bugs – since the wind was blowing.
