Sam And Saundra’s Year Long Adventure – Part 16
12/13/08-01/16/09 Tucson - Golf In Tucson

My official golf lessons were completed in Yuma, but I think that I will continue to learn, for at least few more months, the technicalities of the game. After that, I am convinced that I will spend the rest of my life seeking the perfect game. WHAT DID I GET MYSELF INTO? I actually was doing OK, until one day I lost one of Tauna’s Club covers and the very next, one of her clubs. Since this set was a wedding gift, and had meaning for her beyond the value of the set, I was relieved when I got both items back. I think Sam may have been concerned over my reaction to the loss of her stuff. Sam quickly bought me a nice 13 club set by Adam. I do not know what the G stands for on one of the clubs and I so not plan to use it until someone tells me. Sam and I have been playing 18 holes of golf, at least once a week. In our spare time, we play 9 holes, or hit buckets and buckets of balls. I’d like to blame him for this obsession, but I don’t have time – I need to clean my clubs, find my brilliant colored balls (easier to see in the long grass or snake holes), and get back to trying for a “birdie”.

Other kinds of birdies are found on the courses as well. I pack around my camera to take pictures of the ones that are distracting. Mallard ducks, funny water fowl, woodpeckers with a vendetta with palm trees, and my personal favorite, the pure red Cardinal. Although it could have been some other very red bird. I’m definitely infatuated. We also ran into a coyote on the course. I was able to get a picture of him as he entered an enclosed patio of a residence that abutted the course. Sam was able to get a couple of pictures of him as he left the patio, and proceeded to chomp on whatever he found in that back yard. We see the coyote again as we were finishing up our 18 holes. Did I mention there is a lot of wildlife?

There are a lot of golf courses here and I think they are pretty reasonably priced. We have many to choose from, but they all seem to have houses right there on every edge. I do not see the value of having an abode in the way of golf balls hit by people like me. One back patio that I happen to glance at while looking for a bright pink ball, had three sitting there by the glass door. Luckily, none were pink. The courses have to be hard to maintain, at least the green parts and the water features. The sand traps are probably pretty easy.
