Nearing the Ox Farm

We have 278 miles to drive today with 8 hours drive time, not including lunch.  Monte decided to visit me early and he had me zoomin’ first thing…on a drive day. Sam thought it was pretty funny.  We had to make several emergency stops in the early morning – then around 9 am, Monte got Sam Zoomin’ too.  Pretty soon, everyone in the caravan knew Monte was paying us an unrelenting visit.  The tail gunner was staying back with us – since Sam and I were taking lots of emergency pull-over breaks (we were taking turns). The caravan would get far ahead and Sam would drive like the bandito was back after us to catch up.  We were getting tired and dehydrated.  We had taken all of the over the counter anti-Monte medication recommended in one 24 hour period, and began on the offered prescription medication, when we started getting close to Tehuantepec.  I was really looking forward to this field that was once farmed by oxen. Of course, I then had Monte twisting things and had to make another road stop.  This one was in town and not at a convenient place.  The tail gunner had nowhere to turn off and went ahead.  When I came back to Brutus, I found Sam showing a Green Angel the direction and address we had for the farm.  After looking at me with a small grin and twinkling eye – maybe he has seen many gringos in this position – he proceeded to lead the way for us to our destination.  He did not leave us at all, which was a good thing, because the directions we had were totally useless due to major construction closing the intended road.  I was so happy to see that field.  Sam and I had a gourmet dinner of saltine crackers and bottled water and went to bed.  Tomorrow is another travel day and we hope that Monte zooms away!
