Sam And Saundra’s Year Long Adventure – Part 53

2/23/09  - Paamul – Laze Day

Fish

Not a lot to tell today.  We laze in the sun, appreciating the tropical setting and appreciating that we have the means to do this.

Sam has decided to take me to the jewelry shop everyone here has been talking about.  He ends up buying me two silver crosses.  They are so beautiful.   He says they are for my birthday.  Thanks Sam. (I told him a lot more in person.)

Remember The Vanilla Farm

Tidbits:  The Yucatan Peninsula is made of dried up, dead coral that contains a great deal of lime.  If you know what coral looks like (do you have a fish tank?), you know that it is very porous and water will go through it and not stay on top, unless totally submerged.  So, I am told that there are no above ground rivers in the Yucatan peninsula.  They also have a very hard time with drinking water and sewage.  But!!!--- this makes the cenotes possible.  They are so amazing.  Cenotes were even used in ancient times for good and evil. You have got to come here, or at least read about them.  I kept looking at the buildings and the ruins and everywhere else for evidence of this coral situation.  I had not heard about this at all before this trip.

Purely Pretty

Retornos are our friends.  Without them, you cannot get there from here – no matter where here is!
