Sam And Saundra's Year Long Adventure - Part 69

Sam And Saundra’s Year Long Adventure – Part 69
Mexico
3/11/09 – Puebla – Tour

We climb aboard a double-decker bus – needless to say – it was colorful.  (I love the colors of Mexico.) We climb to the top deck, which is open air.  We cheat a tad and get one of the front seats behind a windshield. The trip into Puebla from Cholula is interesting only because of how the bus driver misses the road construction totally.  Puebla is another large city, with many newly constructed housing areas.  The older parts of the residential areas are now being preserved as well.  The highlight is the town square, where students can access the internet and even have electric hookup outlets, better than our RV Park.  We are impressed.  The flora and statuary, along with the design of the park is very pleasing.  It is tempting to join in and find a shaded park bench and people-watch the day away.  Instead we cross the street with the group (who said lemming?) and entered another fabulous cathedral.  This one is huge and is called the Cathedral of Angels.  It has another name, but this one is the best, as there are angels everywhere!  There are angels outside on top of every ‘fence’ post, gate, light fixture – basically everywhere you look.  There are many towers and bells and they look old.  We enter massive doors that are flanked by massive doors and step into a beautiful, beautiful church.  Angels are everywhere here as well. Everything fought for our attention. Every piece of statuary, fonts, walls, floors, everything was something to look at.  Got pictures.

Edge Of Square

Small, Small Section Of Church

As we left the back of the church (only because it does not face the square), we find a Tourista Officia and enter to find out if they know where a Public Notary is located.  They say they do, and tell us to bring the papers back in.  At least, that is what we think they said.  We are happy and shop.  We meet for lunch at a restaurant that serves buffet and we also celebrate the anniversary of Pete and Judy (you met them in Pt. 32 – remember the duct tape?). Nice food, great time. Fabulous Mayan music.  We bought CD’s and are off again to tour the Talivera Pottery Factory.  I don’t know why they call them factories.  Anyway, if you are into pottery, this should sound familiar to you.  If your not – this place makes some of the prettiest plates, bowls and on and on and on.  These are the designs that are copied by wanna be’s (like the fake Rolexes’s). We got one. Just one. We got free time – Hip Hip Hurryyy! We don’t get much of this.  Sam and I spend most of it back at the square.  It was shady and fun to experience.

Residential Area - Large City

The bus shows up on time, and so do we.  It takes us home and again misses the construction. Sam and I go off again on a walking trek when we get back to camp.  This time in another direction.  We find bottled water and a VIPS Restaurant.  I have a hamburger –Deluxe.  Mexican style. We were treated like royalty.  Contentment.
