Sam And Saundra's Year Long Adventure - Part 41

Sam And Saundra’s Year Long Adventure – Part 41
Mexico
2/11/09 – Isla Aguada

So Many To Choose From

Another great sunrise – resplendent colors that I will never tire of – and since pictures now come in digital – I can take as many pictures as I want.  Ten for each sounds about right.  Sam and I eat at the restaurant, as cooking has gotten way too hard for me (smile).  Then we set off to the office to try again to get a fishing trip going.  No one else in our group is interested and this afternoon we are scheduled for a boat tour to go out to shell beach and to bird island.  Sam and I were not getting anywhere with booking a panga, so we decided to try and walk around the isla to see if it was actually an island itself and if so, if we could get all the way around.

Beach Going That Way

We leave our trailer, face the Gulf and turn right.  We go under the big bridge, finding shells all the way (I brought a bag this time).  We leave the RV Park way behind and find ourselves the only ones on this beach – except for two young native fishermen, fishing the surf with nets.  We continue on and on and on.  We look back and the fishermen are gone and we are totally alone.  We continued to walk until we thought. Once that happened we decided we had better get back to camp if we wanted to try to book a panga.  We never found out if it was a true island and I am pretty sure that it would not make any difference to us if it were not.

Fishing Panga - Waiting For Three More

We make it back in time to find that another party had set up two pangas to go fishing and after Sam made big, sorrowful eyes – we were invited along.  We were in a panga with two sisters (one lent me her hat) and Kim and Lula (husband and wife).  The boat’s captain (Jose) took us up the beach to get some bait. He then took us a ways out from shore.  We were each given a ‘rig’ comprised of a large plastic spool, complete with hook, sinker and bait.  It seemed a little strange without a pole.  The captain had the same rig, only with a large treble hook and jig.  Turns out we had a lot of fun, but the captain caught all the fish. He let us all try to ‘reel’ them in.  We did follow a school of dolphin that was out fishing on their own.  They were faster than my camera – so Sam and I just watched them play and fish. When the trip was over, the fish that were filleted by Jose and the restaurant cooked them up for us.  We were assigned the chore of eating them. Big Yum!! Too bad the rest of the Vags had to scavenge their own dinners.

Leaving Shell Island

In the afternoon, Sam and I joined the other Vags and boarded a large pontoon boat, owed by the RV owners and captained by --- Jose!!  First we went to shell beach.  We jumped off the boat into wading depth water and began to look for shells.  I immediately found a huge, gigantic, very nice sized, Conch shell in about 2 feet of water.  Biggest find we had.  We spend time looking at the birds and vegetation of this island, that has formed within the last 5-7 years.  We all get our fill of shells and on we go to ‘bird island’.  There are actually two islands, but Jose will only go fairly close to one, as he says the birds are nesting on the other.  The pelicans, frigates, sea gulls and whatever – were thick and noisy. As it was getting dusk, with a fabulous sunset over the water (oops – this one deserved ten pictures of it’s own), I limited my pictures of the birds.  The boat ride back to shore was exhilarating, beautiful and … I was not ready for this day to end.  How much fun can we have?? Let me see!
