Sam And Saundra’s Year Long Adventure – Part 42
Mexico
2/12/09 – Campeche
I don’t want to leave!! Sam does not want to leave. We are convinced only because some of the others claim that this trip gets better. We really enjoyed the people at this location. The sisters, Kim and Lula, the owner’s and employees, the residents of this village. Sam and I get up early, as it is a travel day and have breakfast at the restaurant. Hard life. All of a sudden, the sister that lent me her hat came running in and told me to grab my camera and follow her. She may have said other things, but you know how I am. Anyway – I followed and Sam went for the camera. Just two spaces away from ours was a gi-enormous, large, UGLI, IGUANA. BIG and I have many pictures to prove it. Many. UGLI! I leave a note for Kim and Lula (hi!). We pull out of the park in formation, without uniforms. We hope to get back to Freedom Shores someday. Jose even gave us a good, but not original, recommendation that seemed to fit here: “Don’t worry – Be happy!”

We have a pretty uneventful travel day. We head toward the Champoton signs, then the Campeche signs. We are only going 109 miles today, with an estimated travel time of 5 hours. We make it to the Club Nautico RV Park, which is ‘advertised’ as a park any US campers in Mexico should look forward to visiting. It was on a middle-high cliff, with a fair view of the water, but no natural beach. The Club Nautico was actually closed up for the winter (makes its money from vacationers from Mexico during the hot summers). The restaurant, pool, bar/entertainment, were all closed and undergoing a facelift. We walked around the areas open to us, which did not include heated showers or paper-supplied banos (‘ban-yo’). They did have a feature I had not seen yet – to flush the toilet – you had to turn a valve that looked like it would shut the water supply off, but instead, actually flushed it. Adventure! We do sleep deep and wake early, ready for the next thing.
